In my attempt to streamline my life and free myself from all of the boondoggles I've created for myself in the past year, I've realized that something has to go...
Well...not go per se, but I'm at least not going to be able to finish it the way I wanted to originally...
I'm talking about my Newly Upgraded Automail Tutorial. Originally I had planned it as a dazzling multi-media presentation hand-holding the viewer through every step of the construction process. To this end, I filmed over 900 megabytes worth of webcam video.
Then, just as I was sinking my teeth into the project, my sanity kicked in and I realized, "Fuck. I don't want to do this." It's a hard thing to do. A task made even harder by the fact that my computer, editing software, Youtube.com (or all three at once) would sometimes just crap out on me for no damn good reason, erasing hours of work that I thought I had saved.
I figure it's going to require at least 40 hours worth of worktime to finish the tutorial. Unpaid worktime. And while I'm not begrudging an opportunity to share my talents and promote my business, to bestow that much time and energy on a single cosplay project (the popularity of which, I feel, has largely run its course by now) seems a bit...unwise...
So I've gone ahead and posted all of the information I've collected about the project's construction on its Tutorial Page. Included are a materials list, measurement list, a link to my old picture tutorial, links to the videos I managed to finish and links to the MEGAUPLOAD.com folders where I stored the remaining unedited video clips. (If anyone wants to grab them, edit them and send them to me for posting, you're welcome to try. I'm hoping the clips don't include anything embarrassing about me--like me singing along to the Spongebob Squarepants theme song as I'm working. Most of the audio in the clips is complete crap thanks to my webcam's budget-level microphone, so I'd recommend just muting it and listening to Lemon Demon instead.)
So there ya go. Just let me know if you have any questions about anything...
